Expansion Coming to Milton GO

Congestion at the GO terminal in Milton will soon get relief as plans were unveiled to redesign and renovate much of the station.

As part of Ontario’s $21 billion investment to upgrade GO Transit into a regional rapid transit system, the Milton station will see a major expansion and redevelopment. Over the next 8 years the entire rail system will see its weekly passengers jump from 1,500 to 6,000 people and these upgrades are a step towards meeting that increased demand.

The expansion at the Milton station will include new buildings, increased local transit connections, 850 new parking spaces, and easier access for pedestrians and cyclists.

No timeline is currently set for its completion however specific development plans for the larger Milton Corridor project are now being considered by Metrolinx and Infrastructure Ontario. The station expansion will be a part of this broader project and construction will likely begin by the summer.

This is good news for Milton, considering the long commute times that Miltonians endure to travel to downtown Toronto. Access to public transportation will also likely have a positive impact on Milton’s real estate market – especially for homes that are close to the station.
